Obituary of Irene Constance MacDonald

Irene Constance MacDonald (Zaremba), of West Bloomfield MI, died January 5, 2011, of complications of Parkinson disease. Her life ended a week before her 82nd birthday, and she departed confident that she would again see her husband Paul MacDonald, who died in 1996. She was a beloved wife, mother and friend, and her sparkling blue eyes, kindness, strength and sharp wit will be sorely missed. Her wide-ranging interests included love of animals, nature, music and art. She was a gifted potter and worked in Oakland Community College’s Royal Oak campus ceramics lab for many years, exhibiting her work widely. She spent many years as a volunteer at the Detroit Zoo. She leaves behind her daughter Nancy MacDonald of Royal Oak MI; her son Greg MacDonald, daughter-in-law Nancy Evans and grandson Nicholas Nestler of Spokane WA; brother Henry Zaremba of Tempe AZ; Marilyn Harvey of Traverse City MI; Pat Schramm of West Bloomfield and more friends and relatives than can be named here. A celebration of her life is planned for a future date. Gifts in her honor can be made to Elizabeth Lake Animal Rescue, Hospice of Michigan (Southeast Chapter), or the Salvation Army.
