Obituary of Doris May Smith

Doris May (Nee Foe) Smith, 96. Grand Blanc, Michigan.  Passed away on November 10, 2022. 

Doris May Smith was born on October 28, 1926 in Roayl Oak, MI to Leah and George Foe Sr.  After graduation (Dryden, MI) she went on to become a cosmetologist.  Shortly afterward, she met and married the love of her life.  Edward (Jim) Smith and together they raised their 2 children.  The family enjoyed camping and fishing at many county and state parks throughout Michigan.

Doris was taught by her grandmother at a young age to crochet and enjoyed making afghans, hats and doilies for friends and family.  She had a love of gardening and was acclaimed for, and especially proud of her sunflowers that towered as high as 16" tall.  

Doris collected spoons from countries around the world, and was well known for her frog menagerie which she displayed in her home over the years.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.  After retiring.  She and Jim spent many years as "Snow Birds" in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.  

In 2016 Doris became the first resident at the inception of Tranquility Estates in Grand Blac, MI, which she was extremely proud of!  She loved playing LCR, crafting, and bingo.  But above all, enjoyed interacting with her many friends there.  

She will be desperately missed by all those she touched and left behind.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Leah and George Sr., Husband Jim, brothers George Jr and Wilber.  Sisters Louise and Marion and great granddaughter Layla.  Surviving is her brother Gene of Florida, daughter Jan Parhat of Grand Blanc, MI, son David (Ketty) Smith of Livonia, MI, grandchildren Kelly (Jason) Siko, Heather Hunter, and Aaron Smith as well as 5 great grandchildren Jasmine, Amira, London, Lloyd David and Blakely who affectionately referred to her as "Gramma Doe".  A celebration of life will be held sometime in the Spring of 2023 and she will be interred alongside her husband Jim at the Great Lakes National Cemeter in Holly, Michigan.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. 

Doris impacted many lives throughout her life, from caring for young children in her home to taking care of her 92 year old grandmother in that same home.  She was known for speaking her mind, but more importantly for making those around her know that they were loved, no matter what.
