Obituary of Gene Grier

Gene Grier of Clarkston, passed away May 3, 2009 at the age 66. For the past 35 years, Gene was a nationally known educator, composer, author, publisher, recording artist, and clinician. Born on August 5, 1942 in Camden, NJ, to Gerald and Theresa (Snyder) Grier. Graduate of Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) 1968. Master of Music and Master of Environmental Science degrees. Executive Vice President of J W Pepper. Executive Editor for the Lorenz Corporation. Over 850 songs, books and musicals published. Director of The Academy of Popular Vocal Arts, in residence at Oakland University for 23 years. Founded choral publishing companies, EverGreen Morning Press and Birdsongs Unlimited. Performances on television, radio, and Broadway. Soloist for The Norman Luboff Choir. Honors include 11 Grammy Award nominations, 29 ASCAP Popular Music Writing Awards, and Glassboro Distinguished Alumnus1983. Member of ASCAP, NARAS, GMA, MENC and ACDA. He is survived by Audrey Grier, loving and devoted wife of 36 years; also survived by countless loving students, friends and colleagues. Private memorial service on the east coast.
