Obituary of Mary W. Jacobson

Jacobson, Mary W. Former Grosse Pointe Park resident Mary W. Jacobson, 72 of Harper Woods, died Friday, April 15, 2005 of lung cancer at the Main Campus of Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. <br><br>She was born December 24, 1932 in Cameron, West Virginia, to Dan and Nell Yoders. She worked 50 years in the Maternal Health Nursing field, before she retired from Henry Ford Health Systems in January, 2000. She was a Certified OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner. She spent 8 years at the Deaconess Hospital in Detroit, she taught 13 years at the J.T. P.A. School of Practical Nursing, she spent 11 years as OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner at Outer Drive Hospital and the clinics of Henry Ford Health Systems. <br><br>She set up and ran a pilot study of a funded research grant on a NP-run Teen Peer Support Group during Pregnancy, and then together with a W.S.U. PHD and a U of M PHD obtained a three year US National Institute of Health funded research grant for over $900, 000 for Health Promotion of the Pregnant Adolescent. She was also a professional hypnotherapist.<br><br>She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honors Society, AANP, NAACOG, ANHP and HNA. She had made ten presentations to professional groups across the U.S. and had three articles published in professional publications.<br><br>She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Ziemski(Gregory Gluck), of Grosse Pointe Farms, her sister, Joanne Eloff, of Lake Helen, FL, and her husband of 37 years, Wendell Jacobson, of Harper Woods and his daughters, Lynne Jacobson of Toledo, OH and Laurie Jeske(James) of Commerce Township, and his son, Eendell Jacobson(Julie), of TOledo, OH. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lauren Gluck of GP Farms, Erin, Rachel and Lidsay Jacobson of Toledo, and Christian and Natalie Jeske, of Commerce Township.<br><br>A Memorial Service will be held at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church, at Lothrop and Chalfonte, in G.P. Farms at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2005.<br><br>Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 18504 W. Twelve Mile Rd., Southfield, MI 48076, Attn: Relay for Life in Grosse Pointe.
