Obituary of Alice Carolyn Stone

Alice Carolyn Stone, beloved wife, partner, mother, friend, and caregiver made a peaceful transition from this life to the waiting arms of our Lord Jesus, early morning March 30th. Earlier in the night, Alice had been surrounded by many of her loved ones who listened in awe, as she sat on the edge of her bed in the ICU at Saint John’s Hospital (Detroit), and recounted in a clear concise voice, the many reasons for her strong Christian faith. She was 79-years old, and had waged an inspirational fight against several illnesses, finally succumbing to a heart attack. Alice was born in Detroit to Charles and Stella Lapish, and later moved to Tucson, AZ, where she met and married David M. Mayo, and devoted herself to her true mission in life, that of being a full time mother to two sons and two daughters. Later, after being swept off her feet, she married Howard R. Stone, and added three girls and three boys to her earlier tally. She was heavily involved as a volunteer, for many years in the Salvation Army, and the In-Head Injury Alliance of Michigan, but her proudest successes were her children David, Sharon, Laura, Gary, Tammy, Kenneth, Keith, Nancy, Brian and special Rebecca. Alice is survived by her 10-children, 28-grandchildren, 6-great-grandchildren, her beloved sister Marian Coyne, numerous nieces and nephews, her many beloved friends, and her devoted partner, Howard. A memorial service for Alice will be held at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, on Monday, April 5th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Isaac Jogues Parish, The Parish Office, 21120 Benjamin, St. Clair Shores, MI 48081. (586) 778-5100. Her memory will be cherished forever by so many.
