Daniel Dettloff

Obituary of Daniel Joe Dettloff

August 11, 1947 – May 26, 2022

Daniel Joe Dettloff was born on August 11, 1947. Surrounded by family, he passed away on May 26, 2022 at the age of 74. Daniel joins his son Douglas, brother Dale, and parents Paul and Ida in eternal life. Daniel was the treasured father of Shelly Ervin (James) and Lisa Gregoire (Fiance Tony DeJesus) and loving grandfather to Ethan, Elena, and Lucas (Ervin) and Madison and Samantha (Gregoire).  Survivors also include his devoted companion Renna Fraley, former wife and friend Patricia Dettloff, and cherished cousin Joseph Iezzi.

Daniel was born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area and was a graduate of Lakeshore High School in St. Clair Shores. Dan served as infantry the US Army for 2 years, specifically as a member of the “rapid response” unit in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) during the Korean Conflict.  His work journey began at Florkey’s Conveyor Systems, and continued at various machine shops before he finally retired after nearly 25 years with First State Bank.

Outside of work, Dan had a lifelong love for music and especially enjoyed his moments with his fellow “Deadbeats”, his garage band with life-long friends.  There was rarely a moment without music playing; Elvis, Roy Orbison, Dion, Tommy James and the Shondells, or Dell Shannon.  He had a passion for Detroit sports especially the Tigers and Wings and a temperamental relationship with the Lions.  He loved classic cars especially the 57’ Chevy Bellaire.  Lastly, in his memorabilia collection he always had room for anything involving Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, or Coca-Cola.

Dan was a man of compassion and always had a soft spot for people in need and a love for animals - especially his pups, Gizmo and Patches.  He will be greatly missed and thought of often. As a Dad he gave us terrific family memories that will live on in our hearts. We are comforted knowing he is at peace and in the loving hands of the Lord.

Honoring Dan’s request there will be no traditional funeral services.  A Celebration of Life Mass-Memorial will be held at a later date. Date and details to follow as they become available.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Dan’s memory to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.
