Uncle Sam was my daughter's husband's uncle. A nicer man would be hard to find. It's been delightful to have had him nearby these last years ...great to chat with and reminesce. Though he missed his target 97 years by four months, he was hearty and healthy most of the way. Goodbye, Sam, we miss you and wish you peace. Barbara King

Uncle Sam was a great man. He was nearly always game for trying new things, and it was easy to sometimes forget that he was in his 90's when we took our trip to Mackinac Island, camped for a week on the Leelanau Peninsula, and took a cruise to Alaska on which he wanted to take a shore excursion in every port, which usually included a salmon bake. He was an advisor, family patriarch, awesome travel companion, wise sage, and my best friend. There is a hole in my heart, and I miss him very much.
