Obituary for Patricia J. Daugert, PhD

Patricia J. Daugert, born 1/27/1932, passed away Sunday November 21, 2021 at age 89. Pat grew up in Cleveland Ohio. She attended Bowling Green University in Ohio for her undergraduate education, and then obtained a masters degree and PhD from the University of Michigan. She then went on to become the Chair of the Department of Kinesiology at Southern Connecticut University. She retired at 55, and was fortunate to be able to enjoy many years of retirement. Pat had a wide circle of friends from many states, including Michigan, Massachusetts, Vermont, Washington, Connecticut, and Oregon. She enjoyed traveling, and in addition to the states already listed, she visited Alaska, Hawaii, France, England, Spain, Italy, and many of the Caribbean Islands. She also enjoyed skiing, golf, boating, and was a life long dog lover. As an independent, educated woman, she could be assertive and demanding, but always had a warm and welcoming smile, a great sense of humor, and was very generous to many charities, as well as her friends and family. One of her great joys was the small cottage she purchased in 1969 on the Georgian Bay, near Parry Sound Ontario. Several of her friends also bought cottages on the bay, and she spent every summer there until 2017. These cottages were all “water access only”, requiring a boat trip to get to and from. She often had friends and family visiting the cottage, but also spent a lot of alone time there. It takes a strong, confident person to spend so much time alone in an isolated setting on the water with bears, moose, rattlesnakes, and other wildlife in constant presence. The adventures and experiences she had over those 48 years on the bay are obviously too numerous to recap here. Her love for her cottage was so great, that she did not want the story to end with her. As was her generous nature, she passed the cottage on to her niece, Debbie, (who spent time with her there every summer since 1969), so the adventures on the bay that she started so long ago could continue for her extended family. Given her advanced age at death, she was preceded in death by most of her family members and many friends. She is survived by: her niece Deborah (nee Daugert) and Matthew Kay, their blended family of three children and eight grandchildren; nephew James Daugert and Val Sokalski; her great nephew Brian Daugert with his wife Amanda and their 3 children; and her close friend and house mate of many years, Beverly Jones. In accordance with Pat’s final requests, there will be no memorial service
