Obituary of Charline E. Thompson

Charline E. Thompson. Age 93. Passed away December 9, 8:15 p.m. at West Oaks Nursing Home. Beloved aunt of James W. Thompson, aka Abba Elethea she was the last surviving daughter of Dock Thompson and Elizabeth Starks-Cooper. She was born on December 15, 1915 in Little Rock Arkansas. Her family moved to Detroit in 1921 (following her eldest sister who preceded her in death: Louise Reynolds Daniels) with her then baby sister Altemese Thompson-Phillips, also precedeased. A lover of math and reading she graduated from Cass Technical High School and spent time studying at Wayne State University. A Chrysler Retiree and Past Granddaughter Ruler of the Eastern Star she was the recipient of a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Detroit, 11-8-74 for "an outstanding contribution to fraternal excellence and community leadership." She was a Booster of the BREWSTER OLD TIMERS Lauded for her culinary skill she derived tremendous joy preparing food for friends and neighbors. She possessed a generous spirit, a sterling sense of humor augmented by an acerbic wit, and always found a way to help those less fortunate or someone struggling to survive. She will be remembered by her cousins, Angela Gaye, Amar Brown, Gerald Gibbs, Arnold and Natalie Gray, Dyane Gray-Cullert and a host of friends.
