Obituary of Mary Helen Braus

Thank you for visiting this site and contributing your thoughts, memories or stories of Mary. We appreciate your kind wishes as we remember and celebrate her life. Mary was born to Helen Kizewski and Michael E. Dziekan on June 20, 1922, in Stevens Point. She attended St. Stanislaus Grade School and P.J. Jacobs High School. During her high school years she was a member of St. Mary Sodality in her parish. She assisted the cook at Girl Scout camp and was cashier at Whitneys Candy Store. After graduation from high school in 1940, she worked at the Weber Flag Company in Stevens Point; later for the Hardware Mutual Insurance Company, now Sentry Insurance, in Stevens Point. She was subsequently transferred to the Hardware Mutual Insurance Detroit office. After a short time, she accepted a secretarial position at Smith Hinchman and Grylls National Architect and Engineering Firm. It was here that she met her husband, Karl George Braus, son of Genevieve Wise and Fred Braus. Karl and Mary were married November 22, 1952 at St. Michael’s Church in Detroit. Mary was a Girl Scout troop leader, active in the Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School and volunteered at Meadow Brook Hall. Mary also worked as a nursing scheduler and a cashier at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was a member of the League of Catholic Women. She was fun loving and beloved by her immediate and extended family. Her grandchildren were a great source of pride and joy in her later years. She will be missed greatly by all. Besides her husband, she is survived by daughters Rose Braus (Chicago, IL) and Genevieve Braus (Louisville, CO), her two grandchildren, Marie Schaedel (Rose’s daughter) and Derek Tully (Genevieve’s son), and her sisters, Veronica Bobrowitz (Brookfield, WI) and Laura Pehoski (Stevens Point, WI). Her parents and three sisters, Teresa Dziekan, Irene Stanke and Grace Maddente, preceeded her in death. A memorial service will be held in Michigan on October 9, 2006, at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Beverly Hills (32340 Pierce, between 14 mile and Beverly) at 11:00 a.m., visitation at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where her remains will be interred at the Guardian Angel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beaumont Hospice, 248-743-9400.
