Obituary of Starling Lee Hicks


Starling Lee Hicks, age 74, died after a valiant battle with lung cancer, on February 18, 2019, in Madison Heights, MI. He was born on November 8, 1944 in Harmon, VA, to Emmett and Mary Hicks.

He went to high school in Lancaster, CA and then entered into the Navy in 1961. After he left the Navy, he moved to Michigan where he worked as plant manager at Brunswick in Kalamazoo, MI. He also attended college in Kalamazoo during his work years. After Brunswick closed down, he went to work at Checker as manager and stayed there until they shut down business. He then moved to Ohio and worked in management until his retirement.

Starling Lee Hicks is survived by his daughters Candy (Ron) Martin, of Carlisle, IN; Debbie (Rick) Gilmore of Crossville, TN; his finance` Sequitta Britt of Madison Heights, MI, his 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; he is also survived by his sisters Myrtle (Richard) Penrod, of Barstow, CA, Delvina (Ron) Geisert of Anchorage Alaska, Marie Minnick of Vancouver, WA, and his brother, Roger (Vickie) Hicks, of Barstow, CA

He is preceded in death by his Dad, Emmett Hicks, his Mom, Mary Rasnick Hicks, his brother Jerry Lynn Hicks, his paternal grandparents Elijah Hicks; Martha Hicks and maternal grandparents, George Rasnick and Mary Rasnick and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Starling loved life. He was a devoted family man who strove to make everyone happy! He bowled for many years and was proud of his ring he received for the first time ever 300 game for ABT. He loved to fly his airplane and take his family for rides. His daughter, Debbie and he, loved to ride their motorcycles together. His family will miss him greatly.
