Obituary of Robert Earl Lee M.D.

Robert Earl Lee, M.D., age 91, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, after a brief illness. Dr. Lee was born in Detroit on October 10, 1930, the seventh of the eight children of Mr. Gow S. Lee and Mrs. Quon Gin Lee. A first-generation Chinese-American, he rose from humble beginnings to be elected president of his graduating class at Northwestern High School, then to graduate from Wayne State University with a degree in economics followed by dental school. After a brief career as a dentist, Dr. Lee earned a medical degree at Wayne State University and practiced medicine for many years. He was a brilliant man with a keen wit and a gentle soul. He loved cats, going to the casinos, and feasting on Chinese food. He was the loving life partner of the late Justine Fisher. Robert is survived by his sister Lena Lee (Raymond) Joh, his nephews Lawrence Joh, Frank (Judy) Lee, Jr., William Lee, his nieces Laura Joh (Marty) Rowland, Linda (Kevin) Oyafuso, Kathleen (Michael) Chutorash, Gwynne (Thomas) Stormont, Lisa (Edward) Thanz, Kim Gross-Nickerson, his best friend Claude Greiner, and his friend Laura Watkins. Life wasn’t always kind to Dr. Lee, but he was always kind, generous, and loving toward his family and friends, who will remember him fondly and often. As he requested, a memorial dinner to celebrate his life will be held (place and time to be determined). Donations can be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
