Robert D "Doc" Blanchard, passed away May 2, 2009 after courageously battling a long illness. He is survived by a brother, Don of Stone Mountain GA, and a sister, Gertrude Nelson of Washington NC. He received a PhD in Urban Planning from UCLA and was employed by General Motors, Borders, and most recently, by the Road Commission for Oakland County, from which he had retired. He was widely recognized for his many and varied interests, including astronomy, computer technology, research, model railroading, and the study of history. In retirement he devoted many hours to public service, serving with distinction on the Southfield Planning Commission. Doc possessed a keen intellect, a generous spirit, and a warm sense of humor. He touched many people and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. At his request, there will be no funeral services.
