Obituary of Pieter Christopher Wiest

Pieter Christopher Wiest, 81, of Detroit, passed on December 30, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. (He won.)

Pieter was a truly extraordinary man. Born May 17, 1940 in Lansing, MI to Margaret (nee Corwin) and Frans Karel Wiest. Brother of the late Paul and Corwin Ferguson, Ann Victor and Marthe Kent. As a child Pieter spent several years in Germany before the family moved to Detroit, where he lived the rest of his life. Pieter was endlessly curious, with an intense appreciation for both science and art. He delighted in small details and was meticulous in performing any task he undertook. Pieter will be remembered for his determination, his wide-ranging interests, his generosity and his excellent sense of humor.

Pieter leaves behind many friends, too numerous to name, from his years in advertising and in his beloved Greendale neighborhood. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Wiest (Doug Trestain) of Delaware, Ohio, and Catherine (John) Bowersox of Baltimore, Maryland; grandchildren Emmy, Lily, and Jack; his former wife, Gretchen Wiest; niece, Lisa Rosenthal and nephews Geoffrey and Matt Rosenthal. Also, his dear friends Pat Grant and Luke Naud, and his neighborhood family, Kenyatta and Charles Martin and their children.

A memorial will be organized for this spring.
