Obituary of Kathryn Louise Schneider

Kathryn Louise Schneider, age 87, was the youngest of 5 children and raised in
Detroit. Kathryn was a graduate of Wayne State University and was an elementary
school teacher in Highland Park. Kathryn would later work for Saatchi brothers
adverting agency, where she was given the nickname, “Lady Proofreader.” Kathryn
would retire from advertising after many dedicated years of proofreading and
editing with her trusty red pencil. Kathryn met her beloved husband, Herb, while
attending Wayne State University. Married for 50 years until his death, Kathryn
said of Herb, “he was just the nicest person.” Kathryn and Herb raised their two
daughters in Detroit, instilling in them a love of Bette Davis movies, reading
(especially a great beach book), saving room for dessert, always having a tissue,
and finding the humor in even the bleakest of moments. Kathryn possessed a head
of red hair and described herself as an “Irish nightingale” and believed the strength
of your voice didn’t matter as long as you “sing loud with feelings and gestures.” A
treasured storyteller, Kathryn was known for sprinkling bits of wisdom into her
tales, such as “clean sheets always help you sleep better” and “Sunday’s come too
often to worry about them.” Kathryn was a kind and generous, loving and loyal,
intelligent woman with a wicked sense of humor whose loss to those who knew her
is immeasurable. Kathryn endured a long battle with dementia and is survived by
her daughters Elizabeth Schneider (Eric Gordin) and Jennifer Schneider-Stahl
(Daniel Stahl) and her grandchildren, Max Gordin, Jacqueline Gordin, Nikolas
Stahl, and Emma Stahl. Following her wishes, Kathryn will be cremated and
interred with Herb at the Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or
remembrances, the family requests that you offer up a toast in Kathryn’s honor
with a nice glass of red wine.
