Obituary of Gerald E. Weddigen

Jerry, as most called him, decided to take one final exotic adventure. A somewhat spontaneous, but an adventure in itself. He asked his beautiful wife of 53 years, Lucretia (Hart) Weddigen, to stay and plan their next adventure. Jerry's house sitters (i.e. his sons), James E Weddigen and John R Weddigen (Alexandra) will look after things. Jerry has already left behind wonderful gifts and souvenirs for his three grandchildren; Alexandru, Maria and Tate. He will shine in the memories and photos of his in-laws and out-laws alike. He was Uncle Jerry to many nieces and nephews. His neighborhood knew him well.

He loved to travel with Lucky. He loved it so much that most people never knew where he and Lucky were. He had a refined palette for good wine, bourbon, food, and an occasional Stroh’s. He enjoyed watching all the Detroit teams, whether they were winning or losing. He had a green thumb and very much enjoyed working in his backyard, especially growing dahlias. Born and raised in Detroit, he chose to remain in Detroit his whole life where he married, raised a family and loved his city. He was a US Army veteran and recognized with a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War.

Jerry’s career was focused on sales. From Hudson’s to IKEA he could sell anything to anyone.

Jerry loved family and cherished the time that his family was around him. He defined the true meaning of family which was evident whenever and where ever the family gathered.
