Obituary of Edward Franklin Johns

Johns, Edward Franklin, age 88, September 22, 2007, of Bloomfield Twp. Beloved husband of Candice. Loving father of Donna (Joe) McKenzie and Vicki (Rick) Ford. Dear step-father of Robert M. Cooper, and Linda (Joe) Cadariu. Brother of Robert Johns. Grandfather of Donna Marie (Harry) Karapetian. Great Grandfather of Melissa, Joshua, and Michael Karapetian. Mr. Johns was a highly respected designer and builder of custom homes for 40 years. He was an avid golfer. He flew his own aircraft for 63 years. He owned a 4-engine aircraft, lnamed the Spirit of Freedom, which he used to transport cargo. He later donated that plane to the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation. Over his lifetime, he flew vintage planes in many airshows. He piloted both a DC-4 and a B-24. Mr. Johns also trained pilots from the Yankee Air Museum to fly DC-3's and was a member of the Confederate Air Force.
